MX Extends Trading Hours for S&P/TSX Index Futures and Options on Fixed Income Futures

The Montréal Exchange, Canada's derivatives exchange, is extending trading hours of S&P/TSX index futures contracts and options on fixed income futures by adding these contracts to the early trading session. New trading hours for these contracts will be implemented on September 18, 2009.

It will allow international customers to gain Canadian market exposure during the early hours. This initiative will create an additional pool of liquidity for portfolio managers allowing for more trading opportunities during an extended intra-day time frame.

These extended trading hours will be for futures on the S&P/TSX 60^TM Index, the S&P/TSX Composite^TM Index and S&P/TSX sectorial indices as well as options on futures contracts on three-month Canadian bankers' acceptance and ten-year Government of Canada bonds. Here are the details:

Index Futures Trading Hours (Montréal Time)

S&P Composite^TM Index Mini Futures (SCF)
S&P/TSX 60^TM Index Futures (SXF)
S&P/TSX Global Gold^TM Index Futures (SXA)
S&P/TSX Capped Financials^TM Index Futures (SXB)
S&P/TSX Capped Information Technology^TM Index Futures (SXH)
S&P/TSX Capped Energy^TM Index Futures (SXY)

- Early session: 6:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.
- Regular session: 9:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.

Options on Fixed Income Futures Trading Hours (Montréal Time)

Options on Three-Month Canadian Bankers' Acceptance Futures (OBX)
Options on Ten-Year Government of Canada Bond Futures (OGB)

OBX

- Early session: 6:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
- Regular session: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Extended session*: 3:09 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

* There is no extended session on the last trading day of the expiring contract month.

During early closing days, the regular session closes at 1:00 p.m., time at which the daily settlement price is established. In those circumstances, the extended session is from 1:09 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

OGB

- Early session: 6:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
- Regular session: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Extended session*: 3:06 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
